Week 38

Friday 21 June 2024

Hi there!

The weather held out and we had great participation in our Sports Day for Key Stage 3 pupils today.  There were competitions galore and lots of fun activities.  Due to our new school build, the Event was held in Fr Rocks GAA Grounds and we are so appreciative to them for facilitating all the events.  Huge congratulations to everyone who participated and those who were eventual winners.  Thanks as always to Mr Mc Keever, the PE Department and all staff for another TEAM effort at its best!  The Ice Cream and Coffee Vans were a real treat.  We should always appreciate the small things in life!

This was also the final day for GCSE and A Level Exams. I’ve said this before, and I say it again – the application and work ethic from our students during the Exam period was unreal.  They were so focused and determined to do their very best.  Whatever the results say in August, I believe the students could not have worked any harder. I sincerely thank staff and support staff who worked diligently with the students, preparing them for their exams.  Thank you as well to our parents/guardians for your ongoing encouragement to your son/ daughter.  We are so proud of them and know their results will be amazing on Results’ Day.

It has been a busy, few weeks with external interviews, finalising the timetable for September and meeting with the Head of Departments regarding furniture and resources for the new school.  Deciding on the appropriate type of equipment and so on, is key to ensuring that we have the best for our students and that we are unique from every other school. This is quite a lengthy process which requires creative thinking and research.  Definitely, no such thing as winding down in our school!

Rewards were well in order for many pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 – Emerald Park, The Jungle, Belfast Zoo. So well deserved and a huge thanks to our staff for accompanying the pupils.

Year 10 pupils also participated in Life Savers Training, learning vital CPR skills, recovery position and ‘Automated External Defibrillator’ awareness. A great programme and thanks to Mrs Quinn, Ms Valdez and Mr Maguire for passing on the instructions.

It has been a busy, few days meeting our new Year 8 pupils who are joining us in September.  They completed their online CATs assessments and were a pleasure to have in the College; so mannerly and pleasant. The final group of assessments will be held on Monday 24th.  Don’t forget to register for the Transition Summer Scheme which runs from 12th – 16th August. See Facebook for details.

Congratulations to Mrs Maynes and her Year 11 Contemporary Cuisine pupils who provided a very tasty Bistro Lunch for staff on Wednesday.  This is a requirement on their course and the pupils must be congratulated on their impeccable presentation, taking orders, serving food and checking on our satisfaction.  The pupils were an absolute credit and are deserving of the highest praise possible.  Well done Mrs Maynes and the Home Economics Department.

The second last week of Term and look how busy we have been!

Have a great weekend
